The Emirates Astronomy Society has shared significant news for UAE residents and businesses: Ramadan 2025 is predicted to begin on March 1. Ibrahim Al Jarwan, the Society’s Chairman, made this announcement as the UAE prepares for the holy month.

Official Moon Sighting Process

A dedicated committee of religious scholars and astronomers will make the final decision on Ramadan’s start date. This follows the Islamic tradition of moon sighting, which determines the beginning of the lunar month.

Changes to Working Hours

During Ramadan 2025, UAE businesses will implement these working hour adjustments:

  • Standard eight-hour working days reduce to six hours
  • This reduction applies to eligible employees under UAE labour laws
  • Commuting time remains separate from working hours
  • Specific roles and sectors may have different arrangements

Eid Al Fitr Holiday Schedule 2025

The anticipated Eid Al Fitr holiday schedule depends on the length of Ramadan:

If Ramadan is 30 days:

  • Holiday period: March 31 – April 3, 2025
  • Ramadan ends: Sunday, March 30

If Ramadan is 29 days:

  • Holiday period: March 30 – April 2, 2025
  • Ramadan ends: Saturday, March 29

Significance of Ramadan

Ramadan holds special significance as the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, featuring:

  • Daily fasting from dawn to sunset
  • Increased focus on prayer and spiritual reflection
  • Enhanced charitable activities
  • Commemoration of the Quran’s revelation to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

Planning for Ramadan 2025

For UAE residents and businesses, preparation is key:

  • Adjust work schedules to accommodate reduced hours
  • Plan ahead for the Eid Al Fitr holiday period
  • Consider team arrangements during shortened working days
  • Stay updated with official announcements

Looking Ahead

While these dates are astronomical predictions, final confirmation will come from the UAE’s official Moon-sighting committee. This allows everyone to plan while respecting the traditional Islamic calendar system.
