Dh23-million Al Hoshi facility enhances electricity transmission and distribution networks
Summer Power Concerns Addressed
Residents of Al Hoshi and surrounding areas in Sharjah can now enjoy more reliable electricity, even during peak summer months, thanks to a major infrastructure upgrade.
The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (Sewa) has launched the new Al Hoshi power plant, built at a cost of Dh23 million. This facility is now fully operational and will significantly reduce power outages by strengthening the local electricity network.
Timing Perfect for Summer Demand
With summer approaching—when energy consumption rises dramatically due to air conditioning needs—Sewa has taken proactive measures to maintain uninterrupted power supply.
The 33/11 kV plant features cutting-edge technology to improve efficiency and support the growing residential and commercial demands in the area.
Infrastructure Vision
“This plant is a crucial step in enhancing our electricity transmission and distribution networks, ensuring that residents receive the best possible service without interruptions,” said Eng Hamad Al-Tunaiji, director of the Power Transmission Department at Sewa.
The project aligns with the broader vision of Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, to continuously improve the emirate’s infrastructure and enhance quality of life for all residents.
Wider Infrastructure Improvements
The Al Hoshi power plant is just one part of Sewa’s comprehensive infrastructure development plan:
- Electricity network upgrades at 133 locations across Sharjah
- Six major lighting projects in Kalba worth Dh24.4 million completed
- Over 3,200 new water connections added this year
“These improvements mean fewer power cuts, better lighting, and stronger water supply for thousands of residents across Sharjah,” Al-Tunaiji added.
Future Projects Underway
Sewa continues to expand its infrastructure with several projects in development:
- Six additional lighting projects in Kalba set for completion this year
- Dh50 million expansion of water network in Kalba
- New desalination plant in Hamriyah to produce 90 million gallons of water daily
These initiatives will further strengthen Sharjah’s utility infrastructure, providing reliable services to meet the emirate’s growing needs.
Resident Benefits
For locals, these improvements translate to:
- Fewer service interruptions during peak summer months
- Enhanced capacity to handle growing population needs
- More reliable electricity for homes and businesses
- Better-lit streets and public areas
Key Takeaway
Sharjah’s Dh23 million investment in the Al Hoshi power plant demonstrates the emirate’s commitment to infrastructure development that directly improves residents’ quality of life. The strategic timing before summer ensures that even during peak demand periods, residents can expect reliable electricity service. This project, alongside other water and lighting improvements, represents Sewa’s comprehensive approach to meeting Sharjah’s growing utility needs through forward-thinking infrastructure investments.
