The Central Bank of the UAE launches a state-of-the-art Dh100 polymer banknote featuring iconic national landmarks and cutting-edge anti-counterfeit technology
UAE Central Bank Introduces New Polymer Dh100 Note
The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) has officially released a new Dh100 banknote into circulation starting today, 24 March 2025. This latest addition to the UAE currency family is manufactured from polymer material and showcases innovative designs alongside sophisticated security features.
The new banknote will circulate concurrently with the existing Dh100 notes. Financial institutions and exchange houses across the UAE have received instructions to update their cash deposit machines and counting devices to accept the new banknotes alongside current paper and polymer currencies, all of which remain legally protected in value.

Distinctive Design Elements of the New Dh100 Note
The newly issued banknote presents a striking appearance with various red hues that maintain consistency with the current denomination’s colour scheme. The design incorporates the UAE nation brand along with intricate drawings and inscriptions created through advanced printing technologies.
The front face of the banknote prominently displays the Um Al Quwain National Fort, an important heritage site that connects the UAE’s historical roots with its contemporary identity. The reverse side features the Port of Fujairah, one of the nation’s primary ports and a significant hub for shipping and maritime transport.
Another notable element on the banknote is the Etihad Rail, the comprehensive railway network connecting all seven Emirates and extending to neighbouring Gulf Cooperation Council countries. This integrated infrastructure strengthens social bonds while supporting sustainable economic growth through efficient logistics.
Part of UAE’s Currency Modernisation Initiative
This new Dh100 note represents an integral component of the CBUAE’s Third Issuance of the National Currency Project. The design choices highlight the UAE’s remarkable development journey, featuring cultural and economic symbols that showcase the nation’s transformation into a global commercial centre linking continents.
Advanced Security and Sustainability Features
To strengthen public confidence and combat forgery attempts, the Dh100 banknote incorporates sophisticated security features including modern technologies such as SPARK Flow DIMENSIONS and multi-coloured security chip technology known as KINEGRAM COLORS.
The polymer composition offers practical advantages over traditional paper notes:
- Extended Durability: These notes typically last at least twice as long in circulation
- Improved Sustainability: Reducing the environmental impact of currency production
- Enhanced Accessibility: Prominent Braille symbols allow blind and visually impaired users to identify the note’s denomination
Award-Winning Currency Design
The CBUAE has established a track record of excellence in currency design, having received the ‘Best New Banknote’ award at both the 2023 and 2025 High Security Printing EMEA conferences for its Dh500 and Dh1,000 polymer banknotes. These notes have been recognised for their exceptional designs, technical specifications, and innovative security elements.
Official Statement
Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the CBUAE, commented on the release: “The new Dh100 banknote reflects our commitment to the leadership’s vision for a sustainable future through initiatives and achievements that support Net Zero and enhance the nation’s financial competitiveness.”
He added: “Its design embodies the country’s ambitious aspirations for future progress and prosperity, while honouring its historical and cultural heritage. We are pleased to announce this special issue in conjunction with the Eid Al-Fitr celebrations.”
