Your Rights Under UAE Labour Law
The UAE’s Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, which took effect on February 2, 2022, outlines clear guidelines for public holiday compensation. Article 28 of this law safeguards workers’ rights during official holidays.
Key Compensation Elements
Private sector workers are guaranteed:
- Full pay for all official public holidays
- For those required to work during holidays:
- An alternative day off for each holiday worked, OR
- Regular daily wage plus 50% of basic wage for the holiday worked
Eligibility Requirements
According to Suneer Kumar, Senior associate at Al Suwaidi and company: “This compensation applies across all employee categories, provided there’s either an employer request or work necessity, with proper permission to work during the holiday.”
