Starting 9th April 2025, UAE residents travelling to the United Kingdom will face higher visa costs across all categories. The UK government has announced a roughly 10% increase in visa fees, affecting tourists, students, and those seeking medical treatment.
New Visa Fee Structure
For UAE residents planning UK trips, the updated fees are as follows:
- Up to 6-month visit visa: £127 (up from £115, a 10.4% increase)
- Up to 2-year visit visa: £475 (up from £432, a £43 increase)
- Up to 5-year visit visa: £848 (up from £771, a £77 increase)
- Up to 10-year visit visa: £1,059 (up from £963, a £96 increase)
UAE citizens specifically have the alternative option of applying under the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system. The ETA fee will rise from £10 to £16 on 9th April. This authorisation allows multiple journeys to the UK with stays of up to six months at a time over two years or until passport expiry.
Impact on Regional Tourism
Despite the fee increases, the UK remains a top destination for UAE citizens and expatriate residents, particularly during summer holidays. While Eastern European and CIS countries have grown in popularity as alternative destinations, Britain continues to attract significant numbers of travellers from across the GCC region.
Patricia Yates, CEO of VisitBritain, has highlighted the competitive nature of global tourism, noting that the UK faces “fierce competition, especially from our European neighbours.” To achieve the government’s target of 50 million annual visitors by 2030, VisitBritain is focusing its campaigns on growth markets including Australia, the US, major European markets, and the GCC countries.
Projected Tourism Growth
Despite the fee increases, VisitBritain forecasts positive growth in tourism:
- 43.4 million visits expected in 2025 (5% increase from 41.2 million in 2024)
- Projected spending by international visitors to reach £33.7 billion in 2025 (7% increase)
Additionally, fees for academic and private medical treatment visas will increase by £20 to £220, while direct airside transit fees will rise by £4 to £39.
Key Takeaway
UAE travellers planning UK visits should budget for increased visa costs from April 2025, with approximately 10% higher fees across all visa categories. UAE nationals can still benefit from the more affordable ETA system, though this too will see a price increase from £10 to £16.
