His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed has announced a substantial Dh277 million performance bonus for Dubai government civil servants, recognising their exceptional contributions to the emirate’s success.

Sheikh Hamdan Recognises Government Employee Excellence

In a significant move acknowledging the hard work of public sector employees, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, announced on Friday, 21st March 2025, that civilian employees of the Dubai Government will receive a performance bonus totalling Dh277 million.

The bonus was approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, highlighting the leadership’s appreciation for their workforce’s dedication.

Sheikh Hamdan shared the announcement via his official social media account, stating: “Your dedication and commitment have been key to Dubai’s success, constantly raising excellence in government service.”

He further expressed confidence in the continued impact of government employees’ efforts: “We are confident that with your efforts, Dubai will continue to rise on the global stage.”

Consistent Recognition of Government Excellence

This generous bonus follows a pattern of rewarding government employees for their performance. In 2023, a Dh152 million bonus was approved for civilian government employees, showing a significant increase in the 2025 allocation.

The rise in bonus amounts reflects Dubai’s strong economic performance and the government’s commitment to recognising the contributions of its workforce in achieving the emirate’s strategic goals.

Wider Bonus Trends Across the UAE

The government bonus announcement aligns with broader compensation trends across the UAE. According to a survey released in February 2025, approximately 75 per cent of UAE residents expect to receive a bonus this year.

This optimistic outlook follows a strong performance in 2024, particularly in high-growth sectors such as:

  • Technology
  • Banking
  • Healthcare
  • Consultancy

Professionals in these sectors received some of the most generous bonuses in 2024, with payouts reaching up to six months’ salary for specific roles.

What This Means for Dubai’s Public Sector

The substantial performance bonus demonstrates Dubai’s ongoing commitment to:

  1. Recognising employee contributions to government excellence
  2. Maintaining competitive compensation packages for public sector workers
  3. Investing in human capital as a driver of Dubai’s global competitiveness
  4. Supporting the emirate’s vision for world-class government services

Such incentives help Dubai attract and retain top talent in its government institutions, further strengthening the emirate’s position as a leading global city.
