Dubai’s immigration authorities have issued their final appeal to illegal residents, emphasising the critical deadline of December 31, 2024, for the ongoing visa amnesty programme.

The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) has confirmed that strict enforcement measures will begin immediately after the amnesty period concludes. This final extension, which began on September 1, offers violators a crucial opportunity to either regularise their status or depart the UAE without facing penalties.

Final Warning from Top Officials

Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of the GDRFA, stressed the significance of this opportunity: “The amnesty period is drawing to a close. Residents with irregular status should take immediate action during this grace period to address their residency violations.”

Enhanced Enforcement Measures

Major General Salah Al Qamzi from the Violators and Foreigners Follow-up Sector announced that authorities will implement rigorous inspection campaigns after the grace period ends. “We maintain our dedication to fair and transparent law enforcement. Our inspection campaigns will intensify immediately following the conclusion of the amnesty period,” Al Qamzi stated.

Success Stories and Support

The GDRFA has reported numerous success stories from the amnesty programme:

  • Multiple beneficiaries have secured employment and established stable lives
  • Authorities have assisted individuals without passports by coordinating with their embassies
  • Special attention has been given to children’s cases, including access to vaccinations through Dubai Health

Taking Action

Al Marri addressed concerns about the programme’s authenticity: “Some still question whether the amnesty is genuine. We want to emphasise that this initiative aims to help people restart their lives legally in the UAE.”

Time-Sensitive Opportunity

With the deadline approaching, authorities stress that this represents a final chance for illegal residents to:

  • Clear existing fines and penalties
  • Regularise their residency status
  • Return to their home countries without legal consequences
  • Begin fresh with proper documentation

Official Guidance

“This programme offers a path to a new beginning,” Al Marri emphasised. “Those who miss this opportunity may face significant consequences. With less than 15 days remaining, we strongly encourage everyone to take advantage of this initiative to regularise their status and start anew.”

Residents seeking to benefit from the amnesty should contact GDRFA offices immediately to process their applications before the December 31 deadline.
