Private sector workers across the UAE will enjoy up to five days off for Eid Al Fitr 2025, with the final holiday duration dependent on the Shawwal Moon sighting.
Official Holiday Dates Confirmed
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has officially announced that private sector employees in the UAE will receive paid holidays for Eid Al Fitr from Sunday, March 30 until Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
In a statement released on Tuesday, March 18, the ministry confirmed that these holidays will apply to all private sector workers throughout the country.
Potential Extended Break
The actual length of the holiday will ultimately depend on the sighting of the Shawwal Moon, which marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal.
If Ramadan concludes on its 30th day, the holiday period will be extended to include Wednesday, April 2, potentially giving private sector employees a five-day weekend.
Moon Sighting Process
The UAE’s Moon sighting committee will begin observing for the crescent on March 29, 2025. The outcome of this observation will determine the final holiday schedule:
- If the crescent is spotted on March 29: Eid holidays will fall on March 30, 31, and April 1, resulting in a four-day break (including the weekend)
- If the Moon is not sighted and Ramadan completes 30 days: The first day of Shawwal will be on March 31, with Eid holidays observed on March 31, April 1, and April 2, giving residents a five-day break (including the weekend)
Astronomical Predictions
According to calculations by the Dubai Astronomy Group, Ramadan is likely to complete its full 30 days in 2025. This suggests that residents can expect to enjoy the extended five-day holiday scenario.
Equal Breaks for All Sectors
Under the UAE’s unified holiday policy, public sector employees will receive the same holiday period as their private sector counterparts. This policy, implemented to standardise work breaks across all employment sectors, guarantees that all workers receive equal time off throughout the year.
Travel Plans Already Underway
With less than 15 days remaining before the holiday period begins, many UAE residents have already finalised their travel arrangements for the break.
Travel agencies have reported a noticeable shift in holiday preferences, with more travellers seeking family-oriented, experience-based trips that offer immersive adventures rather than conventional getaway options.
Price Increases for Holiday Travel
The growing demand for travel during the Eid break has led to significant price increases:
- Airfares on popular routes have increased by 15-20 per cent
- Hotel rates have risen by 20-30 per cent during peak travel periods
As a result, many travellers are finding all-inclusive holiday packages to be a more cost-effective option for their Eid getaways.
Planning Ahead
For those who have yet to make arrangements for the upcoming Eid break, experts recommend booking as soon as possible to secure the best available rates before prices rise further.
Whether planning to travel abroad or enjoy a staycation within the UAE, the extended holiday period offers an excellent opportunity for relaxation and celebration with family and friends.
