Dubai private school students now have the option for remote learning on Fridays during Ramadan, while those with mandatory examinations must attend in person. Schools must also accommodate families who prefer on-campus learning.

Remote Learning Option Introduced for Dubai Private Schools

Dubai private school students can now choose remote learning on Fridays throughout Ramadan, according to a new directive. This arrangement excludes students scheduled for mandatory in-person examinations on Fridays.

The announcement follows instructions from Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the UAE.

Schools across Dubai have been instructed to make proper arrangements for families who prefer their children to continue attending classes in person on Fridays, offering a balanced approach to education during this important religious period.

Different Rules for Public Schools

The UAE’s Ministry of Education has established Fridays as mandatory distance learning days for public school students. Similar to private schools, this rule does not apply to students with approved Friday examination schedules during Ramadan.

Parents of public school students who wish for their children to attend school physically on Fridays retain this option. However, they must arrange transportation independently, as the Ministry will not provide this service on Fridays during the holy month.

Flexible Working Hours for Government Employees

In addition to educational adjustments, Dubai has implemented flexible working arrangements for government employees during Ramadan.

Government organisations must allow staff to work flexibly for three hours daily, provided they complete five and a half hours of work from Monday to Thursday. Friday requirements specify a minimum of three working hours for flexible work eligibility.

Official Working Hours During Ramadan

The UAE government has established official Ramadan working hours for government employees:

  • Monday to Thursday: 9am to 2:30pm (3.5 hours less than regular hours)
  • Friday: 9am to 12pm (1.5 hours less than regular hours)

For private sector employees across the UAE, working hours have been reduced by two hours per day throughout Ramadan.

These changes reflect the UAE’s commitment to supporting both educational and professional adaptations during the holy month while maintaining essential services and educational standards.
