The UAE federal government has released the official working schedule for public sector employees during Ramadan 2025. The announcement, made by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (Fahr), outlines significant changes to standard working hours.

New Working Schedule

Starting March 2025, government employees will follow these revised timings:

  • Monday to Thursday: 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM
  • Friday: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

This adjustment reduces working hours by 3.5 hours on weekdays and 1.5 hours on Fridays compared to regular timings.

Flexible Work Options

Federal organisations can maintain their current flexible work systems during Ramadan, provided they stay within daily work hour limits. A notable provision allows up to 70% of staff to work remotely on Fridays, following established guidelines.

Ramadan 2025 Timeline

The Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) indicates Ramadan will likely begin on Saturday, March 1, 2025. The UAE’s International Astronomy Centre (IAC) confirms the Ramadan crescent should be clearly visible on February 28, 2025.

Standard Government Working Hours

Outside Ramadan, UAE federal government employees follow these times:

  • Monday to Thursday: 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM
  • Friday: 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Weekend: Saturday and Sunday

Regional Variations

While most emirates follow similar patterns, Sharjah maintains distinct working hours:

  • Four-day week: Monday to Thursday
  • Working hours: 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM
  • Weekend: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

Important Notes

  • Special arrangements exist for roles requiring different schedules
  • Local government entities across UAE emirates generally align with federal timings
  • Official moon-sighting committees will confirm the exact start date

This updated schedule reflects the UAE government’s commitment to supporting staff wellbeing during Ramadan while maintaining efficient public services.
