Dubai has launched a groundbreaking educational programme targeting Africa’s young population. The ‘Skills Academies‘ initiative, announced by Waleed Al Ali, Secretary General of The Digital School, aims to equip 5 million African youth with practical skills through eight specialised training centres.

Bridging the Skills Gap

The programme focuses on three primary sectors:

  • Agricultural development programmes to boost farming expertise and food security
  • Management training to develop leadership capabilities
  • Technology education to prepare participants for digital careers

“Africa is on the brink of a major renaissance and there is a pressing need for education and training to empower its youth,” states Al Ali, highlighting the continent’s position as home to the world’s largest youth population.

Strategic Implementation

The initiative welcomes participants aged 18 and above, subject to local regulations. Each academy provides accredited training programmes specifically created to match current job market requirements.

The UAE’s commitment to African development strengthens this educational partnership. “Our goal is to significantly contribute to the progress and development of the African continent by providing essential skills that align with job market demands,” Al Ali explains.

Impact and Opportunities

This initiative represents a significant step in addressing youth employment challenges across Africa. By combining practical training with market demands, the Skills Academies programme creates a direct pathway to employment opportunities.

The programme demonstrates Dubai’s dedication to supporting educational development beyond its borders, while strengthening its position as a global education hub.
