The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has officially announced January 1, 2025 (Wednesday) as the first public holiday of the upcoming year for UAE government employees. This declaration aligns with the previously released official holiday schedule for 2025.

Key Holiday Updates for 2025

Government employees can expect 13 public holidays throughout 2025, with significant modifications to certain religious observances. The UAE Cabinet’s latest resolution introduces specific adjustments to the Eid Al Fitr holiday structure.

Modified Eid Al Fitr Holiday Structure

The 2025 Eid Al Fitr holiday introduces a revised format:

  • Holiday duration spans the initial three days of Shawwal
  • If Ramadan extends to 30 days: Four-day holiday (Ramadan 30 to Shawwal 3)
  • If Ramadan lasts 29 days: Three-day holiday (Shawwal 1 to 3)

This marks a change from 2024’s arrangement, which provided a longer break from Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3.

Religious Observances and Additional Holidays

The calendar maintains several significant Islamic celebrations:

  • Arafah Day (Dhul Hijjah 9): One day
  • Eid Al Adha: Three days (Dhul Hijjah 10-12)

These religious observances combine to offer government employees a four-day break during this period.

Planning Ahead

The announcement enables government employees to plan their 2025 schedules effectively. Private sector employees should consult their respective organisations for applicable holiday policies, as dates may vary.

This updated holiday schedule reflects the UAE’s commitment to balancing religious observances with public administration requirements while supporting employee well-being through structured breaks throughout the year.
