The UAE is set to implement its first standardized electric vehicle (EV) charging tariffs starting January 2025, marking a significant step in the nation’s sustainable transport strategy.
New Charging Rates
Starting January 2025, EV owners will pay:
- DC chargers: Dh1.2 per kWh plus VAT
- AC chargers: Dh0.7 per kWh plus VAT
Nationwide Charging Infrastructure
UAEV, the government-owned entity, has announced plans for comprehensive charging coverage:
- Target: 1,000 charging points by 2030
- Location strategy: Urban centres, highways, and transit points
- Coverage: All emirates for both inter-city and intra-city travel
Enhanced User Experience
UAEV has introduced several features to improve accessibility:
- Mobile application with real-time charging point information
- Live status updates on charging station availability
- Integrated payment solutions
- 24/7 customer support centre
Collaborative Development
Multiple organisations are participating in the charging network development:
- DEWA in Dubai
- ADNOC Distribution through strategic partnerships
- UAEV’s government-led initiatives

The UAE introduced these rates in May 2024, offering free public charging until January 2025 to encourage EV adoption and facilitate the transition to the new system.
