President Sheikh Mohamed has authorised the release of 2,269 prisoners as part of the UAE’s 53rd National Day celebrations, demonstrating the nation’s commitment to compassionate governance and social rehabilitation.
The presidential pardon encompasses various offences and includes the settlement of all associated fines and penalties, offering these individuals a fresh start. This humanitarian gesture aims to support family reunification and social reintegration.
In a parallel announcement, the Ruler of Sharjah has approved the release of 683 additional prisoners, bringing the total number of pardoned inmates to 2,952.
This development coincides with the UAE’s introduction of a new Federal Decree-Law governing penal and corrective facilities. The legislation strengthens these institutions’ capacity to support prisoner rehabilitation and successful community reintegration.
