Are you a UAE resident who’s been abroad for an extended period? Whether for health treatment, studies, or personal reasons, your residence visa might be at risk of automatic cancellation. But don’t worry – you may be eligible for a return permit, allowing you to re-enter the UAE without needing a new visa. Let’s dive into the details of who’s eligible and how to apply.

Who Can Stay Outside the UAE for More Than Six Months?

Golden Visa Holders

If you’re fortunate enough to hold a Golden Visa, you’re in luck. These prestigious visa holders can stay outside the UAE for extended periods without their residency visa being cancelled.

  • Provide a valid reason for being outside the country for more than 180 days

Application Process

The process differs depending on your emirate of residence:

For Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah:

  1. Apply online through the ICP smart services portal
  2. Select ‘Residents outside the UAE’
  3. Choose ‘Permits for staying outside UAE for over six months’

For Dubai:

  1. Apply through the GDRFAD website (www.gdrfad.gov.ae)
  2. Fill in the application for ‘Return permit for resident outside UAE more than six months’
