Dubai’s private education landscape is experiencing significant growth, with 39 new institutions set to open their doors for the 2024-25 academic year. This expansion includes private schools, nurseries, and universities, adding over 16,000 seats to the emirate’s educational capacity across various fee levels.

A Diverse Range of New Educational Institutions

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has announced the opening of several new schools catering to different curricula:

British Curriculum Schools

Five new UK-curriculum schools are joining Dubai’s educational scene:

  1. Dubai British School Jumeirah
  2. GEMS Founders School Dubai South
  3. New Dawn Private School in Muhaisnah
  4. Hampton Heights International School in Twar
  5. Springfield International School in Al Aweer

These additions will provide more options for families seeking British-style education in Dubai.

French Curriculum School

For those interested in French education, the Lycée Francais Jean Mermoz South in Al Barsha South will be opening its doors.

Early Childhood Centers (ECCs)

The early education sector is seeing substantial growth with 29 new ECCs set to open. Additionally, seven centers have already begun welcoming students since June and July 2024. Notably, this includes Dubai’s first ECC offering a Chinese curriculum, broadening the city’s educational diversity.

The majority of these new ECCs will follow the UK early years foundation stage curriculum, providing a strong educational foundation for young learners.

Higher Education Expansion

Dubai’s higher education landscape is also growing, with four new KHDA-licensed institutions scheduled to open during the 2024-25 academic year:

  1. SKEMA Business School (France)
  2. Plekhanov Russian University of Economics (Russia)
  3. Symbiosis International University (India)
  4. Neohorizon School of Business (UAE-China partnership)

The first three institutions will offer both bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, while Neohorizon School of Business will focus on dedicated master’s degrees in business.

Impact on Dubai’s Educational Landscape

This significant expansion of educational institutions in Dubai reflects the city’s commitment to providing high-quality education options for its diverse population. The new schools and centers will cater to various curricula, age groups, and educational needs, further solidifying Dubai’s position as a global education hub.

Aisha Miran, director-general of KHDA, emphasized the importance of this growth: “By welcoming these new schools, early childhood centers, and higher education institutions, we’re not just adding numbers, but creating more opportunities for our children and youth.”

Benefits for Students and Families

The addition of over 16,000 seats across various fee levels will provide families with more choices when selecting the right educational institution for their children. This expansion addresses the growing demand for quality education in Dubai and offers options to suit different budgets and educational preferences.

Dubai’s Commitment to Educational Excellence

The KHDA remains dedicated to supporting the needs of students, educators, and families in Dubai. By fostering a diverse and high-quality educational ecosystem, Dubai aims to prepare its youth for future challenges and opportunities.

Miran added, “We are committed to strengthening Dubai’s reputation as a leading destination for high-quality education and remain dedicated to supporting the needs of our students, educators, and families. Together, we will work to provide every child in Dubai with access to the best possible education in an environment that nurtures their potential and prepares them for the future.”

Looking Ahead

As Dubai continues to grow and attract a diverse international community, the expansion of its educational sector is crucial. The opening of these 39 new institutions marks a significant step in accommodating the educational needs of the emirate’s growing population.

Parents and students can look forward to a wider range of educational options, from early childhood education to higher learning. This growth not only benefits current residents but also makes Dubai an increasingly attractive destination for families considering relocation.

The KHDA’s ongoing efforts to enhance Dubai’s educational landscape demonstrate the emirate’s commitment to providing world-class learning opportunities. As these new institutions open their doors, they will contribute to shaping the future of education in Dubai and preparing students for success in an increasingly globalized world.

With this expansion, Dubai continues to cement its position as a leading global education hub, offering diverse, high-quality educational options that cater to its multicultural population and attract international students and families.
