Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates, a premier shopping destination, is set to become even more accessible thanks to significant road infrastructure improvements. These enhancements, costing Dh165 million, are being implemented by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in collaboration with Majid Al Futtaim, the mall’s operator. Let’s delve into the details of these exciting developments and how they’ll transform your shopping experience.
New Flyover: A Direct Route to Retail Paradise
The centerpiece of these upgrades is a new flyover connecting Sheikh Zayed Road directly to the mall’s parking structure. This addition is a game-changer for visitors coming from Abu Dhabi, eliminating the need for time-consuming U-turns.

Khalifa Bin Braik, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Asset Management, explains: “The new flyover will join the existing mall bridge, leading to all the parking floors. This means anyone coming from the Abu Dhabi side can head straight into the mall’s car park without having to do a U-turn.”
Umm Suqeim Road: Smoother Traffic Flow
The improvements extend beyond the flyover. Bin Braik highlights another key enhancement: “We’re adding an extra lane on the slip ramp to facilitate smoother traffic flow, eliminating bottlenecks and long waits when entering or exiting the mall, especially during the busy weekend rush.”
This upgrade is crucial, considering the mall’s impressive daily traffic:
- Weekdays: 30,000 vehicles
- Weekends: 36,000 vehicles
Multiple Access Points: Designed for Convenience
Mall of the Emirates currently boasts five entry and exit points, each strategically placed to accommodate various approaches:
- Main access from Sheikh Zayed Road (southbound)
- VIP main entrance for exclusive entry
- Two access points from Halim Street (from Umm Suqeim):
- First floor entrance
- Ground floor entrance
- Entry and exit point from Al Barsha Road
Bin Braik emphasizes the importance of these options: “The multiple access points have been designed to offer visitors various options for entering and exiting the mall, helping to accommodate different routes and traffic conditions.”
Key Enhancements at a Glance
- New direct bridge access from Sheikh Zayed Road (Abu Dhabi side) to mall car park
- Upgrade of peripheral road to create a two-way dual road around the mall
- Enhancements to Umm Suqeim Interchange, including an extra lane on the slip ramp
- New Umm Suqeim exit for improved egress
Parking Made Easy
With five expansive parking levels, Mall of the Emirates is well-equipped to handle its high volume of visitors. The direct access provided by the new flyover and other road enhancements will significantly reduce time spent navigating congested roads.
Beyond Cars: Improved Public Transport Connectivity
The upgrades aren’t limited to private vehicles. Bin Braik notes, “Connectivity to the RTA public transport hubs, including nearby metro and bus stations, is also being enhanced, making it more convenient for those using public transport to access the mall.”
A Vision for the Future
These comprehensive road upgrades demonstrate Dubai’s commitment to constantly improving its infrastructure. By addressing traffic concerns and enhancing accessibility, Mall of the Emirates is set to offer an even more enjoyable shopping experience for residents and tourists alike.
As these exciting changes take shape, shoppers can look forward to spending less time on the road and more time exploring the mall’s world-class retail offerings, dining options, and entertainment facilities. The future of shopping in Dubai is looking brighter – and more accessible – than ever before.
