Abu Dhabi’s airports saw a remarkable increase in passenger traffic in 2023, with a total of 22.4 million passengers passing through its gates. According to the official data released by Abu Dhabi Airports, the number of annual arrivals reached 11.1 million, while departures stood at 11.3 million.
Indian Subcontinent Tops Departure Destination
The report revealed that the Indian subcontinent was the top destination for passengers departing from Abu Dhabi’s airports, with around 3.2 million travelers. Western Europe followed closely with 1.9 million, Asia with 1.7 million, GCC countries with 1.6 million, and East Asia with 822,777 travelers.
Aircraft Traffic Sees Significant Growth
The report also highlighted a significant growth of 27.8% in aircraft traffic through Abu Dhabi’s airports in 2023 compared to 2022. The number of flights reached 141,225 at Zayed International Airport, compared to 110,536 flights in 2022. Al Ain International Airport logged 8,409 flights last year, compared to 7,598 flights in 2022.
Cargo Traffic on the Rise
In terms of cargo traffic, Abu Dhabi’s airports imported 319,993 tonnes of goods in 2023, mostly from Asia with 138,187 tonnes. Exports reached 238,644 tonnes, led by Western Europe with 98,089 tonnes. Al Ain International Airport exported 1,263 tonnes of goods and imported 501 tonnes in 2023.
