Bahrain has announced a public holiday to mark the Islamic New Year, with a 3-day weekend from Friday, July 5 to Sunday, July 7, 2024.

A Break for the Holidays

Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, issued a circular regarding the 1446 AH Hijri New Year holiday. As a result, the Kingdom’s ministries and public institutions will be closed on the first day of Muharram, corresponding to Sunday, July 7, 2024.

The Significance of Islamic New Year

The Islamic New Year, also referred to as the Hijri New Year, marks the start of a fresh lunar year. Most Muslims observe the first day of Muharram as the beginning of the Islamic year, making this holiday a significant one for the community.

Extended Weekend Ahead

With Friday and Saturday being a typical weekend in the Kingdom, workers will have an extended break from Friday, July 5 to Sunday, July 7, and return to work on Monday, July 8.
