In a significant move towards reducing its carbon footprint, IKEA UAE has launched a new eight-tonne electric delivery truck, aligning with the UAE’s national policy and the Paris Agreement. This initiative aims to reduce IKEA’s carbon footprint by 50% by 2030.

Electric Truck: A Step towards a Sustainable Future
The electric truck, powered by advanced Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery technology, offers a range of 250 kilometres on a full charge. Initially, the truck will be used for small store replenishments, serving routes from the main store in Yas Island to Al Wahda Mall and the new store in Dalma Mall.

Reducing Carbon Emissions
The launch of this electric truck is expected to prevent 29 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, equivalent to the emissions produced by seven passenger cars driven for a year or the carbon absorbed by 477 seedlings grown for ten years.

Al-Futtaim IKEA’s Commitment to Sustainability
Vinod Jayan, Managing Director of Al-Futtaim IKEA UAE, Egypt, Oman, and Qatar, emphasized the company’s commitment to creating a better everyday life for many people. “This commitment extends our responsibility to the planet. The launch of our 8-tonne electric truck is a significant step towards reducing our carbon footprint and achieving our sustainability goals.”

Aligning with UAE’s National Policy and Paris Agreement
The initiative supports the UAE’s strategic goals of promoting sustainable transport solutions and reducing carbon emissions. By introducing electric trucks into their fleet, IKEA UAE demonstrates leadership in the region’s transition towards a sustainable future.

This launch marks a significant shift in IKEA UAE’s operations, paving the way for a more sustainable logistics operation.
