As the UAE’s ban on outdoor work during the hottest months of the year approaches, it’s essential to know the key dates, timings, and fines for rule violators. In this article, we’ll delve into the details of the midday work ban and the measures in place to ensure a safe working environment for labourers.
When does the ban start?
The UAE’s outdoor work ban commences on Saturday, June 15, and will be in place until September 15, 2024. During this period, outdoor work under direct sunlight and in open spaces is prohibited from 12:30 pm to 3 pm.
Why was the ban introduced?
The ban aims to provide a safe working environment for labourers, adhering to best practices and occupational health and safety requirements. It prevents workers from injuries and damages resulting from working in high temperatures during the summer months.
What are the fines for violators?
Establishments violating the noon work ban will face an administrative fine of AED 5,000 ($1,360) for each worker, with a maximum of AED 50,000 ($13,600) for multiple workers.
Rest stations for delivery workers
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has collaborated with government entities and private sector companies to provide 6,000 rest stations for delivery service workers across the UAE. The initiative aims to ensure the health and safety of delivery service workers and provide them with a safe working environment.
Additional initiatives for workers
The UAE has implemented various initiatives to ensure a comprehensive social protection system for workers. This includes the Unemployment Insurance System, an optional alternative end-of-service benefits scheme, a programme to protect workers’ financial entitlements, a wage protection system, and a system for occupational health and safety in the UAE labour market.
By implementing these measures, the UAE prioritizes the safety and wellbeing of its workers, providing a safe and healthy working environment for all.
