Sir Tim Clark, the president of Dubai’s Emirates Airline, has launched a scathing attack on Heathrow Airport, labelling parts of it as “dilapidated” and akin to a “Second World War airport.” Clark’s criticism focuses on Terminal 3, which Emirates uses, and he claims that the experience for passengers is “dismal.”

In an interview with The Times UK, Sir Tim expressed his disappointment with the airport’s facilities, citing the “awful” ceiling height in the lounge area. He believes that the building needs a radical overhaul to improve the customer journey. Clark proposes reducing the size of the plaza to make way for expanded security and check-in areas.

Heathrow Airport is, in Clark’s opinion, “seriously lagging behind” other major airports in terms of customer experience. He points to new airports being built with the latest technologies to streamline customer-facing elements, which is not the case at Heathrow.

In response, Heathrow Airport authorities have pledged to invest £3.6 billion in upgrades over the next three years, including improvements to Terminal 3. The airport also highlighted the need for regulator approval before making any changes.

As the aviation industry continues to evolve, it’s clear that airport facilities must adapt to meet changing passenger demands. Emirates’ criticism serves as a wake-up call for Heathrow to prioritize customer experience and modernize its infrastructure.
