The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is making significant progress on its ambitious plan to introduce a unified tourist visa, a move expected to boost tourism and economic ties across the region.

According to GCC Secretary General Jasem Al-Budaiwi, the project has made substantial headway, with several new initiatives in the pipeline. Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency, Al-Budaiwi highlighted the importance of promoting tourism in GCC member states.

The unified tourist visa, adopted during the 44th GCC summit in Doha, aims to simplify travel between Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain. This development is a crucial step towards greater economic integration, an essential goal for the GCC.

Al-Budaiwi emphasized that the GCC has already achieved significant political, military, and economic accomplishments. However, he acknowledged that further work is necessary to realize the full potential of economic integration.

Last month, UAE Minister of Economy Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri revealed that the visa will allow travelers to visit multiple GCC countries and stay for more than 30 days. Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, chairman of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Authority (SCTDA), confirmed that the new visa system is on track to be implemented by the end of the year.

As the GCC continues to drive progress on the unified tourist visa, the region is poised to reap the benefits of increased tourism and economic cooperation.
