Starting July 1, some Daman health insurance holders in Abu Dhabi will face increased premiums and co-payments for certain services. However, the basic plan’s coverage will be expanded to include top-tier health facilities in the emirate.

Premium Hikes for Emirati-Sponsored Domestic Helpers

The premium for basic health insurance for Emirati-sponsored domestic helpers under the age of 60 has been increased from Dh600 to Dh750. The basic plan for other categories has also been adjusted, although details on premiums are yet to be confirmed.

Co-Payment Increases

Some co-payments will also increase. Currently, basic plan users don’t have to pay extra fees for in-patient services and one-day procedures, unless they exceed the insurance coverage. However, starting July 1, subscribers will need to pay Dh200 for each in-patient service and one-day procedure, capped at Dh500 per year.

For diagnostic services and laboratory tests, users currently pay only Dh10, on top of the Dh20 co-payment for physical consultation. With the adjustment, a 20% co-payment will apply, with a maximum of Dh50 per visit.

Medication coverage remains at Dh1,500 per year, with a 30% co-payment fee.

Access to World-Class Hospitals

These fee increases come as the National Health Insurance – Daman expands the basic plan coverage to include top-tier facilities, such as:

  • Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for adult cardiac surgery and stroke
  • Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC), a CoE for stroke
  • Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), a CoE for paediatric cardiac surgery

Residents subscribed to this plan will continue to receive an annual health insurance cover of Dh250,000, alongside access to healthcare and emergency services from more than 1,250 healthcare facilities across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra region.

The policy changes aim to ensure community members receive access to the highest quality of care in the emirate, in line with local government regulations.
