As a parent in the UAE, are you prepared for the financial implications of raising a child? According to a recent study, parents in the UAE spend up to Dh98,800 on various products and equipment during their child’s first year. This staggering amount can be attributed to the demand for high-quality baby products, nursery furniture, and childcare services.
Breaking Down the Costs
The study revealed that parents mainly spend on:
- Gear such as strollers, car seats, high-chairs, and carriers
- Nursery furniture and décor
- Clothing and accessories
- Feeding, nursing, and nutrition
- Maternity products and services
- Bath and baby care
- Gadgets, post-partum support, toys, education, and outdoor fun
- Health and safety essentials
- Childcare and nurseries
Budget-Conscious Parents Spend Less
While Dh98,800 may seem like a daunting amount, budget-conscious parents can spend between Dh10,000 to Dh15,000 on their child’s first year. Leena Khalil, CEO at Mumzworld.com, emphasized that parents prioritize everyday essentials like diapers, baby clothing, feeding bottles, and skincare products.
Prioritizing Convenience and Education
When shopping for products, over 53% of parents prioritize ease of use and convenience, followed by educational value and ease of cleaning and maintenance. This highlights the importance of products that are both convenient and educational.
A Call for Expanded Resources
Despite the growing demand for baby products and services, nearly a quarter of parents surveyed expressed difficulties in finding equipment, maternity, and postpartum products and support in the UAE. This underscores the need for expanded resources and services to cater to the diverse needs of expectant and new mothers in the region.
By understanding the costs and priorities of parents in the UAE, we can better support and empower families to provide the best possible care for their children.
