The UAE Cabinet has announced a groundbreaking 10-year residency visa, dubbed the “Blue Residency,” for individuals who have made exceptional contributions to environmental sustainability.
A New Era of Sustainability
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “Our national orientations are clear and firm in this area. The sustainability of our economy is now linked to the sustainability of our environment.” This move is in line with the UAE President’s directives to extend the initiative of the Year of Sustainability to 2024.
Eligibility and Application Process
The Blue Residency is open to individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary contributions to environmental protection, sustainability technologies, and related fields. This includes:
- Members of international organizations
- International companies
- Members of associations and non-governmental organizations
- Global award winners
- Distinguished activists and researchers in environmental work
Applicants can submit their applications directly through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security or through nominations by competent authorities in the state.

The UAE’s Blue Residency aims to attract and recognize champions of sustainability, further solidifying the country’s commitment to environmental action and sustainable development.
