Dubai Municipality has taken a significant step towards combating water pollution in Dubai’s creeks and water canals. The municipality has introduced a state-of-the-art smart marine scraper, designed to collect floating waste and promote a cleaner marine environment.
The smart marine scraper is a remotely operated vessel that uses advanced technology to collect and transport up to 1,000kg of floating marine waste. The scraper’s sophisticated control system utilizes 5G networks to execute precise marine maneuvers, ensuring efficient waste collection.
Advanced Features for Enhanced Efficiency
The smart marine scraper features a marine survey system that identifies waste sites and initiates the removal process. Additionally, its interactive external environment system automatically prevents collisions, enhancing marine safety.
Dedicated Team for Marine Cleanliness
To ensure the effectiveness of the smart marine scraper, Dubai Municipality has assigned a dedicated team to oversee the cleanliness of water canals and creeks spanning over 35km. The team, comprising 12 marine captains, 25 workers and sailors, and 12 marine vehicles, conducts daily cleaning tasks and field follow-ups around the clock.
A Commitment to Sustainability
The launch of the smart marine scraper demonstrates Dubai Municipality’s commitment to technological innovation and sustainable development. This initiative aims to curb marine pollution caused by floating waste, ultimately safeguarding Dubai’s marine and natural environments.
By embracing cutting-edge technology, Dubai Municipality is promoting a cleaner, more sustainable future for its citizens and visitors alike.
