The United Arab Emirates’ tourism sector is expected to reach new heights in 2024, with the industry forecasted to contribute a staggering 12% to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This translates to an estimated value of AED236 billion ($64.25 billion), according to the UAE Minister of Economy, Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri.
The tourism sector has been a significant contributor to the UAE’s economy, with the industry supporting 809,000 jobs last year, equivalent to 12.3% of national employment. This figure is projected to rise to 833,000 jobs by the end of 2024.
At the Arabian Travel Market, Al Marri highlighted the importance of the tourism sector in driving economic growth and job creation in the UAE. The event brought together key stakeholders in the tourism industry, including ministers and CEOs from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain.
During a panel discussion, the ministers emphasized the need for cooperation and collaboration among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to promote regional tourism initiatives. They also discussed the importance of infrastructure investments, such as airports, cruise terminals, and the GCC Railway, in improving connectivity and facilitating travel across the region.
The introduction of the GCC Unified Tourist Visa is expected to boost tourism in the region, allowing visitors to travel easily across GCC countries and promoting the region as a single destination. This initiative is expected to drive longer stays and higher spending, ultimately contributing to the growth of the tourism sector.
As the UAE’s tourism industry continues to grow, there is a strong focus on sustainable tourism practices that benefit local communities and promote environmentally-friendly practices. The industry’s growth prospects are promising, with collaboration and cooperation among GCC countries expected to drive the sector’s further development.
By 2024, the UAE’s tourism sector is poised to reach new heights, driven by innovative initiatives, infrastructure investments, and regional cooperation. As the industry continues to grow, it is expected to make a significant contribution to the country’s economy and create new job opportunities for citizens and residents alike.
