With the top rating in the Arab world and a position as the 11th global leader in the prestigious 2024 Leading Maritime Cities (LMC) survey, Dubai has once again established itself as a prominent maritime destination. This move up two spots from the 2022 evaluation illustrates Dubai’s increasing strategic strength and influence in the marine industry.

The current accolade comes soon after Dubai’s outstanding performance in a different well-known study that was released in Singapore and highlighted the city’s unwavering commitment to enhancing its marine status on the international scene. The combined results highlight Dubai’s innovative and dynamic approach to marine excellence.

Upon closer inspection of the LMC report, it is evident that Dubai’s rise up the rankings is due to its significant accomplishments in five key areas: ports, logistics, maritime technology, shipping centres, and competitiveness. It also has strong financial and legal frameworks. Dubai’s dedication to utilising green technology in the marine industry is especially notable, since it demonstrates a forward-thinking perspective on sustainable development.

Dubai’s successes in the marine sector are a result of the unwavering efforts of the Dubai marine Authority (DMA), which operates under the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) umbrella. The Chairman of PCFC, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, praised this accomplishment and attributed it to DMA’s aggressive measures to improve Dubai’s international marine reputation.

The Executive Director of DMA, Dr. Sheikh Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al-Maktoum, echoed this view by emphasising the Authority’s commitment to pushing the frontiers of innovation, research, and development. The objective is to maintain safety, environmental stewardship, and compliance with national and international standards while improving integrated logistics services. These coordinated actions are expected to strengthen Dubai’s position as the world’s preeminent marine centre.

As Dubai continues to chart its course in the maritime sector, its achievements are a beacon of its strategic vision and innovative spirit. The city’s ascendancy in the global maritime rankings not only underscores its commitment to excellence but also shines a light on the broader ambitions of the Arab world in claiming a pivotal role on the maritime global stage.
