Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport has notably expanded its duty-free market, signaling a significant leap in its aviation and tourism offerings. The recent unveilings at Terminals 1 and 2 were overseen by Abdulaziz Al Duailej, head of GACA, and Ayman Abu Ababa from Riyadh Airports, emphasizing the Kingdom’s ambition to refine air travel and attract international visitors.

In a move to diversify shopping experiences for travelers, Al Duailej encouraged retailers in the duty-free zones to enrich their assortments with high-end international brands, specializing in perfumes, electronics, and leather goods. This initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader efforts to upscale amenities and services for tourists and residents alike.

Expansive Retail Space for an Enhanced Shopping Experience

The revamp has more than doubled the leasable area in the duty-free sector to a sprawling 4,700 square meters, significantly up from the initial 2,000 square meters. Positioned strategically in Terminal 3, the expansion caters to the modern traveler’s needs, offering a vast array of products and brands under one roof.

Additionally, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are undergoing extensive enhancements, including the development of two new lounges. These improvements aim to boost the airport’s capacity by 40 percent, aspiring to accommodate 14 million passengers yearly, a notable increase from the current 10 million.

The remodel not only extends the internal footprint but also amplifies the commercial and retail spaces within the duty-free zones of these lounges. These transformations display Saudi Arabia’s commitment to elevating the travel experience through state-of-the-art facilities and diverse shopping venues.
