The healthcare landscape in Dubai is experiencing robust expansion, creating an ever-increasing demand for healthcare professionals, especially nurses. Traditionally, gaining entry into this noble profession in the UAE required nurses to have a minimum of two years of work experience. However, this cornerstone requirement has seen a pivotal shift.

In a significant move in 2022, the Ministry of Health and Prevention, in collaboration with the Dubai Health Authority and other regional health authorities, announced the abolition of the mandatory two-year work experience for certain nursing positions. This reform opens up new avenues for registered and assistant nurses to practice in Dubai, requiring no prior work experience.

This exemption also extends to various specializations within the nursing field, including school nurses, nurse practitioners, and specialty nurses, granted that all educational prerequisites are met along with the following conditions:

  1. Licensing and Registration: Nurses must hold a valid license or registration from recognized countries such as the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, among others listed.
  2. Educational Qualification: A maximum two-year gap from the time of obtaining your educational qualification is allowed, provided there’s no break in practice if previously employed in the nursing field.
  3. Good Standing Certificate: A testament of your professionalism and adherence to ethical standards in your home country is required for application.
  4. English Proficiency: For applicants from non-English speaking territories or those whose higher education wasn’t conducted in English, proof of English fluency is necessary. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, OET, and Cambridge Assessment English, with specified minimum scores.
  5. Primary Source Verification: All experience, qualifications, and registration documents must undergo verification, assuring authenticity and compliance.

This groundbreaking change marks Dubai as an even more attractive destination for aspiring nurses from around the globe. It not only simplifies the pathway to starting a nursing career in the UAE but also underscores Dubai’s commitment to bolstering its healthcare workforce with talented professionals, regardless of their prior work experience.

Embarking on a nursing career in Dubai is now more accessible than ever. With these more inclusive requirements, the city extends a warm welcome to passionate individuals ready to contribute to its thriving healthcare sector.
