With an ambitious $11.2 billion investment plan aimed at creating 120,000 new jobs and boosting the Kingdom’s appeal to both local and foreign investors, Saudi Arabia is prepared to change its tourist scene. Aiming to inject approximately SR42 billion ($11.2 billion) into various tourism ventures, the Tourism Investment Enablers Programme, led by Minister of Tourism Ahmed bin Aqeel Al Khateeb in partnership with the Ministry of Investment, lays out a strategic initiative to revitalise the hospitality sector. By 2030, the programme is expected to contribute an impressive SR16 billion ($4.3 billion) in revenue to the Kingdom’s GDP.
At the core of this strategy is the Hospitality Sector Investment Enablers Initiative, which aims to increase the capacity of hospitality facilities throughout Saudi Arabia’s top tourist locations while also broadening and diversifying tourism services. In addition to encouraging investment, this programme aims to streamline procedures, make the environment more investor-friendly, and solve issues that arise in order to lower operating expenses and eventually promote the expansion of the travel and tourist sector.
Saudi Arabia is poised to become a highly sought-after travel destination due to its unique and abundant natural and cultural heritage. The 390 percent increase in demand for licences to engage in tourism activities last year highlights the Kingdom’s potential and preparedness to accept significant investments during the ensuing 10 years. This investment push is in line with Saudi Vision 2030, which views the travel and tourism industry as a critical area for economic expansion and diversification.
Wide-ranging advantages result from this investment, which should improve the Kingdom’s tourist infrastructure and provide a large number of new job opportunities. By adding some 42,000 hotel rooms, the programme hopes to promote nationalisation efforts in the local labour market and foster talent development. In the end, this large-scale initiative is expected to create a dynamic and sustainable tourist ecosystem, which would propel Saudi Arabia’s economic growth and global cultural importance.
