The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is embracing the future with open arms by deploying AI-powered robots within the Grand Mosque to assist Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. The innovative move by the Presidency of Religious Affairs aims to enhance the spiritual journey for worshippers through technology.
In an effort to streamline the experience for the millions of pilgrims that visit the Grand Mosque in Makkah each year, Saudi authorities have introduced robotic assistants. These robots are designed to offer guidance on performing Hajj and Umrah rituals, provide Islamic rulings and fatwas, and assist with directions around the mosque complex. Additionally, they offer translations in multiple languages to accommodate the diverse backgrounds of worshippers.
The robots are equipped with touchscreen displays, high-definition cameras, and robust speaker systems, ensuring clear and effective communication. With Wi-Fi connectivity, they can access and provide real-time information in 11 languages, including Arabic, English, French, Russian, Persian, Turkish, Malay, Urdu, Chinese, Bengali, and Hausa.

This initiative not only showcases Saudi Arabia’s commitment to integrating technology into religious practices but also enhances the accessibility and ease for pilgrims visiting the sacred site. As technology continues to evolve, the use of AI-powered robots in religious settings opens new avenues for innovation and support, making spiritual journeys more enriching and seamless.
