Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has taken a significant step towards improving the city’s traffic flow by announcing a comprehensive AED700 million ($191 million) enhancement project for Al Khail Road. This ambitious initiative aims to construct extensive bridges and upgrade roads across multiple key locations, all designed to streamline travel and significantly reduce journey times for commuters.
The project will see the creation of 3.3 kilometers of bridges and 6.82 kilometers of road enhancements at seven critical points along Al Khail Road, including areas such as Zabeel, Meydan, and Jumeirah Village Circle. This upgrade is anticipated to elevate the road’s capacity by around 19,600 vehicles per hour, facilitating smoother traffic movement and minimizing congestion.
Mattar Al Tayer, the Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, emphasized the strategic importance of the Al Khail Road Improvement Project. It is aimed at bolstering the capacity of major arteries supporting the city’s core highways and ensuring seamless traffic flow across Dubai.
Key components of the project include the construction of a three-lane bridge to directly connect traffic from Zabeel Palace Street to Al Khail Road towards Abu Dhabi, and a two-lane bridge to facilitate travel from Al Meydan Road towards Deira. Moreover, the initiative will introduce vital surface road improvements to enhance connectivity and ensure efficient traffic distribution across the city.
The RTA’s efforts to upgrade Al Khail Road, a crucial corridor from Business Bay to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, underscore Dubai’s commitment to developing a world-class transportation infrastructure. This project not only aims to improve daily commutes but also contributes to the overall safety and well-being of the city’s residents and visitors.
By reducing travel times by up to 30% and increasing road capacities, Dubai continues to set benchmarks in urban mobility solutions, reinforcing its position as a global leader in infrastructure development.
