Over the last half-decade, Dubai’s healthcare landscape has seen an impressive expansion in both the number of healthcare professionals and facilities. This growth underscores the emirate’s development into a leading, cutting-edge healthcare destination.

According to the latest data from the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), the healthcare sector has swelled from 3,431 facilities in 2019 to 4,922 in 2023. This comprehensive network includes 53 hospitals (both government and private), 58 day-care surgery centers, 2,315 specialized outpatient clinics, 1,495 pharmacies, 119 diagnostic centers, and 655 clinical support facilities.

The workforce powering this sector has also seen a remarkable increase. From 2019 to 2023, the number of healthcare practitioners in Dubai leaped from 39,548 to 58,788. This includes 13,082 physicians, 4,071 dentists, 22,960 nurses and midwives, and 18,675 allied health professionals.

In 2023 alone, there was a notable rise in healthcare professionals flocking to Dubai, with the DHA registering 904,646 new professionals, alongside 26,279 new facility registrations and 952 facility activation requests.

Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, the DHA’s Director General, pointed out that this surge is a testament to Dubai’s esteemed position on the global healthcare map. The emirate’s appealing investment environment, advanced infrastructure, and innovative technology have made it an attractive hub for healthcare investments, drawing in multinational hospitals and medical centers.

Al Ketbi emphasized that the government’s unwavering support has been instrumental in the sector’s rapid and diverse expansion, further enhancing Dubai’s appeal as a prime destination for healthcare professionals worldwide. This influx of talent not only boosts the sector’s capacity but also cements Dubai’s status as a leading medical tourism destination, offering high-quality healthcare services to the global community.
