In a significant move to ease traffic within the region, the UAE is contemplating the creation of a pivotal new roadway to better connect the emirates and alleviate congestion. This proposition came to light during a recent session of the UAE Federal National Council.
During the meeting on January 24th, a critical topic of contention was the growing traffic on federal roads, specifically those linking Dubai to the Northern Emirates. Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, addressed the matter, suggesting that the government is keen to explore various proposals for a new thoroughfare.
Al Mazrouei emphasized that any decision to construct such an infrastructure project would require the consensus of the local emirates, alongside thorough and comprehensive feasibility studies. What’s more, he indicated that the advent of new rail routes in the nation is likely to play a pivotal role in mitigating road congestion.
The UAE is no stranger to leveraging groundbreaking technologies for the betterment of its infrastructure. In efforts to unravel the complexities of traffic flow and congestion patterns, engineering studies leveraging artificial intelligence have been conducted. Such technological advancements are instrumental in pinpointing the primary traffic hotspots and identifying high-traffic periods throughout the UAE.
