In the dynamic business landscape of Dubai and the wider UAE, the leap towards artificial intelligence (AI) is evident, as local firms draw out AI strategies to enhance operational efficiency and inflate revenue. Despite these strategic efforts, a report by Cisco underscores a gap – there’s an imperative need for investment in advanced network technology infrastructures to elevate AI adoption to its peak potential.

AI readiness isn’t just a buzzword in Dubai but a quantifiable measure, as per Cisco’s AI Readiness Index. This global survey, encompassing the voice of over 8,000 organizations, pinpoints an AI preparedness crisis, with only 14% of businesses worldwide ready to deploy AI solutions effectively. The UAE, however, stands out with Dubai businesses demonstrating an impressive 73% preparedness in strategy, affirming the city’s mounting status as an AI development hub.

But what drives these organizations to dabble in AI? The pursuit of operational finesse tops the chart, with half the surveyed Dubai firms prioritizing it in their AI objectives, closely followed by ambitions to expand revenue streams and innovate relentlessly.

The voice of Reem Asaad, Cisco’s Vice President for the Middle East and Africa, echoes the urgency of AI – a technology revolutionizing businesses and quotidian lives. She emphasizes that while the UAE marches forward with its National Strategy for AI, further investment in secure AI solutions is crucial to ensure responsible and reliable AI integration.

Yet, a deeper dive into the UAE’s strategy readiness reveals that while the majority of firms have strong AI strategies, only 7% is primed infrastructurally to shoulder AI’s hefty demands. Scalability and flexibility are the cornerstones of a future-proof AI infrastructure – necessities that many Dubai firms are still grappling with.

Data handling is another Achilles’ heel for the UAE, with a surprising 27% of organizations falling behind in having “AI-ready” data frameworks. With AI’s risks and ethical considerations, Regulation 10 marks a milestone for the UAE, steering the processing of personal data through AI with a robust legal scaffold.

What about the masters of the machines – the AI talent? A quarter of the UAE organizations identify a dearth in AI tool proficiency, but there’s a silver lining. With 80% of these firms investing in upskilling their workforce, the future promises a brigade of AI-savvy professionals, driving Dubai’s AI ambitions to fruition.

Change can be daunting, and AI does bring a cultural conundrum. Although currently, only 6% of Dubai’s organizations are fully prepared for the cultural shifts AI will induce, an encouraging 76% demonstrate a high degree of eagerness to adapt. This readiness isn’t just on paper – Dubai businesses are actively progressing, heightening their pace in the AI race in just half a year’s span.

The transition toward AI in Dubai is not limited to mere adoption – it’s about crafting a culture that fosters innovation, constructing the technical backbone to support pioneering technologies, and nurturing talent to lead the transformation. For job seekers in Dubai and the wider UAE, this translates to a promising horizon filled with tech-forward opportunities, where AI isn’t just an edge but a standard for operational excellence and career development.
