If you’re a Golden Visa holder contemplating a new job opportunity in Dubai, it’s essential to understand the formalities involved in changing employment. Whether employed in the mainland or elsewhere across the UAE, you’re governed by the country’s labor laws including the Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021 and relevant Cabinet and Administrative Resolutions.
As a UAE Golden Visa holder, you’re entitled to work in the Emirates. Article 7 of the Employment Law, in tandem with Article 6(1)(j) of Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022, confirms that Golden Visa holders may receive a work permit through a registered establishment desiring their services.
When it’s time to move on from your current job, you must cancel your current work permit per Article 7(3) of the Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2022. The cancellation process involves several steps, including an application submission, data completion, attachment of documents, payment of any fines, and acknowledgment from your current employer that you’ve received all dues.
After your work permit cancellation, you can sign a new employment contract and secure a work permit for your next role. The requirements, as detailed in Administrative Resolution No. 38 of 2022, include a current, clear photo, passport copies, a residency visa, a signed employment contract approved by the Ministry, and depending on your skill level, attested academic or professional certificates.
As a Golden Visa holder, you sponsor your residency, not your employer, so your family’s residency status remains unaffected during job transitions. All you need is to cancel your existing work permit and obtain a new one from your future employer through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiritisation (MoHRE).
For personalized advice and clarifications, it’s advisable to reach out to the MoHRE directly.
Remember, the Golden Visa offers you the flexibility and privilege to navigate the UAE job market with ease, making employment transitions seamless.
