As Etihad Airways commemorates its 20th anniversary during the vibrant Dubai Airshow at Al Maktoum International Airport, the airline has unveiled ambitious hiring plans that are set to energize the job market in Dubai and the broader UAE. With a commitment to recruit around 1,000 individuals each year over the next seven years, Etihad stands as a beacon of opportunity for job seekers looking to soar in the airline industry.
Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, shared insights into the airline’s expansion strategy during the airshow, signaling a robust post-Covid recovery and a desire to deliver exceptional customer experiences. “We’re planning to double the size of our fleet in the next seven years and anticipate these hires will create substantial value for our company,” Neves remarked.
Destination: Growth
Etihad Airways isn’t only expanding its workforce—it’s also broadening its horizons with 12 new destinations introduced this year alone. The airline’s growth trajectory aims for a 10% annual increase, opening new routes in markets like India and extending its wings to cities such as Boston and Nairobi. This strategic expansion has seen the airline thrive with a 35% increase in operations, enhancing their schedule with additional flight frequencies and improved connectivity.
Neves revealed, “We added 12 new destinations this year, and next year, we’re looking to add 10 more.” This news spells opportunity not only for aviation professionals but for job seekers across diverse sectors fueled by the travel industry.
Navigating Industry Challenges
Growth, as exhilarating as it may be, comes with its fair share of challenges. Neves highlighted supply chain obstacles, particularly the aviation industry’s struggle with plane deliveries and engine issues. “The demand for planes is high, and the supply isn’t keeping up,” he explained, emphasizing the airline’s need for more aircraft to fulfill its ambitious plans.
A New Era at The Midfield Terminal
With the new Midfield terminal at Abu Dhabi airport transforming into a cutting-edge aviation hub, Etihad Airways is positioning itself to accommodate significant passenger growth—expecting to serve 17 million passengers next year and 33 million in the coming seven years. The terminal offers a sophisticated First and Business Class lounge, enhancing the pre-flight experience with luxury amenities.
“As we take over 70% of the terminal’s capacity, this move is crucial for our growth and perfect in its timing,” Neves added.
