Abu Dhabi has made a major step towards improving the emirate’s infrastructure and standard of living by announcing an ambitious plan to invest $18 billion in the development of the housing, education, and tourist sectors.

The Abu Dhabi Executive Council has approved 144 projects with a substantial budget of AED66 billion ($18 billion), according to the Abu Dhabi Projects and Infrastructure Centre (ADPIC). These initiatives span a number of important domains:

  • Home and Standard of Living: A staggering AED59 billion ($16.1 billion) is set aside for the construction of homes and public spaces, with the goal of creating fully developed communities with a variety of amenities.
  • Education and Human Capital: The emirate has set aside AED4 billion ($1.1 billion) to support education and human capital, demonstrating its dedication to developing talent and promoting educational advancement.1
  • Vacation: The tourism industry is expected to see a significant boost with about AED1.1bn ($299.4m) allocated, which may potentially increase the emirate’s attractiveness as a worldwide travel destination.
  • Surface Materials: AED 50 million ($13.6 million) will be invested in initiatives aimed at improving and managing the emirate’s natural resources in a sustainable manner.

The Department of Municipalities and Transport – Abu Dhabi Chairman, Mohamed Ali Al Shorafa, stressed that these initiatives are evidence of Abu Dhabi’s steadfast dedication to excellence and sustainable growth.

These programmes, which include about 13,000 new housing units in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, are intended to improve efficiency and shorten waiting periods for recipients of government housing by streamlining the distribution procedure.

However, the plan goes beyond just building infrastructure; it also intends to strengthen social bonds by building community centres, mosques, sports facilities, and other establishments that promote welfare and a feeling of community.

Acting Director General of ADPIC Maysarah Mahmoud Eid stated that these programmes are a part of an all-encompassing plan to manage the emirate’s ongoing expansion, improve quality of life, and cater to the changing requirements of its heterogeneous populace.

Apart from the infrastructure and social amenities, the plan encompasses substantial expenditures in the fields of education and vocational training, tourist-boosting cultural locations, and programmes that aim to improve the emirate’s food security by means of aquaculture.

The ADPIC’s comprehensive development plan, which emphasises the emirate’s commitment to economic progress, community welfare, and environmental preservation, is a step towards a better, more sustainable future for Abu Dhabi.
