With a successful trial run of its passenger train, Etihad Rail has made history for the UAE’s transport industry by successfully completing a journey from Abu Dhabi to Dubai. Major General Staff Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan travelled the historic trip on Etihad Rail’s cutting-edge prototype passenger train with a distinguished delegation from the Ministry of Defence. This experiment, which runs from Al Faya, the centre of Etihad Rail’s operations, to Al Qudra in Dubai, highlights the country’s aspirational goal of building a cutting-edge and environmentally friendly transit system.

After being greeted by Etihad Rail CEO Shadi Malak and other high-ranking officials, the group discussed the strategic developments and accomplishments since the network’s operational launch in February 2023. With more than 2.4 million tonnes of aggregates and 7.4 million tonnes of sulphur delivered across the United Arab Emirates, Etihad Rail is a symbol of the country’s logistical strength and dedication to economic expansion. The briefing emphasised Etihad Rail’s crucial role in supporting the transport and logistics sector in the United Arab Emirates, in line with the instructions of the visionary leadership, and helping to realise the UAE Centenary Plan 2071 and Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.

An intimate tour of the operations and repair facility—a crucial hub for the National Railway Network—was also included in the visit. The delegation gained an understanding of the intricate workings of the control centre, which is essential for overseeing and controlling the smooth running of the network. This historic trial trip not only opens the door for a new age of travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, but it also makes a substantial contribution to the nation’s economic growth and sustainable development objectives.
